I have crossdressed on and off since childhood. None of my friends or family know and so opportunities for me to dress are rare but when I go on business trips or cycling trips I love to make use of the anonymity of the hotel room and occasionally venture out into the world. Sophie is one of the Characters in John Wyndham’s The Chrysalids which I first read when young. I have always thought of it as a very pretty, feminine name but her character had difficulties being accepted as she was different. So perhaps that makes it even more appropriate. Underhill is the name Frodo Baggins used when traveling incognito in Lord of the Rings. Being in the closet I wanted to use a false surname. So why not recycle a literary one?
